Commuters in Newbridge and Kildare Town can look forward to fare reductions and the introduction of the LEAP Card at the end of April. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed that Phase 2 of the 2024 Fares Determination (Fairer Fares) is on track, offering integrated fares, fare capping, and discounts for multi-modal travel.
The LEAP Card will operate similarly to other commuter areas, making it easier and cheaper to switch between trains and buses. A marketing campaign will be launched to ensure locals are well-informed about these changes.
TaxSaver Ticket Update from 1st June 2025
Changes to the TaxSaver system will come into effect from 1st June 2025 for Newbridge and Kildare Town commuters. Existing tickets will remain valid until expiry, but the new zonal system will allow unlimited travel within purchased zones and all closer zones to Dublin. The feeder service charge between Dublin Heuston and the city centre will be scrapped.
There will be no changes to TaxSaver products for Cork, Galway, Limerick, or Waterford commuters.
Jennifer Caffrey, a leading advocate for the Extend the Short Hop Zone campaign, has been instrumental in securing these updates. Stay tuned for more information as the rollout progresses.
