A Kildare father-of-two, who has been battling a rare and aggressive cancer, is pleading for support as he fights to extend his time with his family.

Daniel Mooney, 37, was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumours (DSRCT) in May 2024—an extremely rare cancer, with only 30 cases reported worldwide each year. His life was turned upside down just as he and his family had moved into their dream home in the Kildare countryside, ready to build their future together.

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Daniel remains focused on one thing, his family.

A Gruelling Battle – And a Glimmer of Hope

Since his diagnosis, Daniel has undergone nine rounds of intense chemotherapy, pushing his body to its limits. Against the odds, the results have been remarkable—his largest tumour shrank from 25cm to 8.4cm, and, crucially, the cancer has remained contained within his abdomen.

But the battle has come at an immense cost—both physically and financially.

Daniel has endured:
🔹 Severe bone marrow suppression
🔹 Two life-threatening bouts of sepsis
🔹 Extreme exhaustion from chemotherapy

With his body weakened but still fighting, he is now preparing for major surgery on February 17 to remove the remaining cancerous sites. While the procedure won’t be curative, it will give him more time, more time to be with his family, to watch his sons grow, and to continue his fight for life.
